*L/NL Note
Leafing grades are used for applications requiring maximum metallic brilliance and reflection.
Non-leafing grades typically are to remain inside the film application and will provide a lower metallic brilliance, reflection.
Indicative Formulation
Aluminium:5-10%
Binder 90-95%
Suggestion
Suggested binder: paraloid B66 acrylic binder (Rohm&Haas) in butylacetate ratio 30/70.
How to Use
1/ Mix a small quantity of solvent to the aluminium powder to obtain a homogeneous pre-dispersion.
2/ Add pre-dispersion gradually to binder using a slow rotation mixer (50 rpm)
3/ Spray formulation at 20 seconds Zahn 2 or Ford 4.
Note
The diameter of the spray nozzle should be at least three times larger than the dimension of the largest particles.
Evaluation of Stability
For aerosol paints
The stability of the formulation is normally tested at 50°C (in an oven) for the period of minimum one month.
