Advantages of Using Powders Instead of Pastes
- The AVL dry milled powders do not contain solvents, have a higher flexibility when preparing formulation; even traces of solvents can have an adverse effect for some applications.
- Aluminium powders retain their full chemical reactivity; aluminium pastes have a lower chemical reactivity due to the addition of other chemicals which have an influence on the quality of the final product.
- Powders are free flowing and therefore easy to weigh, to handle and to transport through a vacuum system, pastes however are not free flowing as they stick and therefore do not have the advantages of the powders.
- Powders are easy to dry blend (in drum) with other dry components; the addition of binders and additives in powder form renders the preparation and the application very simple and efficient; the optimal metallic effect with such handling is retained; especially when there are no or very low extrusion requirements.
- The shelf life of powders is up to 2 years under the prescribed storage conditions, while the shelf life of pastes is in many cases limited to 6 months or even less, depending on the solvent used.
