Dry ball milling process : A milling process with abstract of liquids in the milling environment
Light weight concrete : Autoclaved cellular concrete
blow moulding : a manufacturing process by which hollow plastic parts are formed / powder coatings a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder
Masterbatch compounds : A solid product (normally of plastic, rubber, or elastomer) in which pigments or additives are optimally dispersed at high concentration in a carrier material
Injection moulding : A manufacturing process for forming objects, as of plastic or metal, by heating the molding material to a fluid state and injecting it into a mold
Can coatings : Coating of tin cans, lids and tubes or the sheets they are made of
D90 : 90% of the particles are finer than this value
D50 : 50% of the particles are finer than this value
D10 : 10% of the particles are finer than this value
Leafing : formatting of an orientated film of metal flakes near the air/liquid interface in paint or varnish vehicles
non leafing the particles are disorientated within the paint or varnish –sh14
Flexo printing : a machine printing process that utilizes rollers or cylinders with a flexible rubber-like surface. A measured amount of ink is deposited upon the surface of the printing plate (or printing cylinder) using an anilox roll. The print surface then rotates, contacting the print material which transfers the ink–sh14
Gravure printing : a machine printing process where the copper printing rollers are engraved with a design. The engraved areas of the rollers pick up the ink and deposit it on the substrate which passes between the gravure cylinder and an impression roller under pressure
Offset printing : a machine printing process using flat printing plates. The inked image on the plate does not print directly on to the substrate, but is first ‘offset’ onto a rubber blanket, and then transferred onto the substrate
Screen printing : a stenciling printing process where the ink is transferred through open areas of the mesh onto the substrate
Dusting bronze : a method where bronze powder is dusted onto wet ink. The excess powder is dusted off with a tuft of cotton
Can coating : spray coating technique for the interior and exterior of beverage cans
Coil coating: continuous coating technique of metal coils, usually with a liquid material
Dip coatings : a coating technique where the substrate is immersed in the solution of the coating material and is pulled up afterwards at a predetermined speed
Crosslinker : Cross-links are bonds that link one polymer chain to another
Zahn2 or Ford 4 : viscosity measurement devices widely used in the paint industry
Apparent density : The mass per unit volume of loose material, also called Bulk Density. –
Water covering capacity : method by which a given weight of powder is spread out in a film one flake thick on the surface of water and all flakes beside one another without interstices.–
Particle size distribution : measuring method by the use of a laser beam to determine the particle size and the particle size distribution of the metal flakes .
Polyolefine : a group of polymers produced from an olefin as a monomer, e.g. polyethylene
Blaine Std : a method to determine the air permeability specific surface of a standard powder
Blaine Retarded Std : a method to determine the air permeability specific surface of a retarded powder
Extrusion : a process used to create objects of a fixed cross-sectional profile
8980/EA/70-30: EA = ethylacetate / 85 = 85% solids / 15 = 15% liquids
RPM : rotations per minute – sh15
Diam or spray nozzle : the diameter of a nozzle that atomizes and directs a liquid
Extrusion – electrostatically a process used to create objects of a fixed cross-sectional profile with the help of electric charges
