About Us

History

AVL Metal Powders (previously André van Lerberghe and A. VAN LERBERGHE) was founded by André van Lerberghe in 1937. The production of aluminium, bronze and copper powders was started with a couple of machines at the factory located in Kortrijk, Belgium.

AVL Metal Powders, of which the production site is still based in Kortrijk, has remained a family business over the years.

Production

Our aluminium, bronze and copper flakes are obtained by a unique production process called dry ball milling. This process can be adapted to the changing customer requirements in the different sectors of application.

The powders and pastes obtained by this process can be used in sectors of application ranging from decorative products such as plastics, paints, printing inks to more reactive applications such as the cellular concrete industry.

Safety and Environment

A high technological, modern machine processing and a flexible environment, combined with the know-how of our experienced staff ensures the optimal quality with the highest safety of all AVL products to our customers.

Quality Control

All products, raw materials, semi-finished and finished products go through a pre-defined range of quality tests, some of which are determined by the final application of the various products.

ISO 9000:2000

Since 1995, we have implemented and maintained the continuity of a quality management system conform to the ISO 9001/2000 standard. Zero defects against customers' specifications is our objective.

Marketing

Over the years, we have gained an increasing market share, first in Europe, and then in other regions, while adjusting at the same time to changing market requirements.

Currently, more than 90% of the AVL production is exported throughout the world.

Continuous Improvement

AVL Metal Powders has focused on specific areas since many years in order to adjust to the market requirements.

New Developments

The developments achieved over the last few years can be summarized as follows:

  • Improvement of the physical, chemical, optical characteristics of all pigments for use in paints, printing inks, plastics and introduction of new qualities.
  • Launch of a new non-leafing grade 70000/2/NL for use in industrial paint applications.
  • Improvement of the stability of all pigments (our Aquastab range) for use in water based systems.
  • Launch of a 2-pack easy-to-use metallic water based paint for the decorative industry.
  • Development of a new aluminium grade for UV systems.
  • Adjustments of AVL aluminium grades in response to the requests of the customers in the cellular concrete industry (ALC industry).

Important new developments are currently on their way and we take this occasion to thank all customers and our staff who are continuously providing their assistance and feedback through the different stages (concept, evaluation, verification …) of our projects.
